Makerspace Information

Location and Parking

Made New Makerspace is located at 5366 F Street, easily accessible from either the 42nd or 60th Street I-80 exits. The makerspace is located on the furthest west bay in the building.

There’s always plenty of parking at the makerspace! During the day, members are asked to park in either the westernmost space along the building or the 20+ spaces along the street. Members with handicap parking status may park in the handicap spaces nearest our entry. In the evening, the other spaces along the building may be used as well.

Inside the Facility

When you enter the facility, you’ll find a reception desk in front of you, and directly past that is the makerspace office. If this is your first visit, start there and talk to our director Jim or one of our volunteers.

The floorplan to the right shows the makerspace layout. Nearest the entrance is the sewing room. This is followed by the multipurpose workroom/classroom space, where you can pull up a table to work on a project or take a class when offered. Just before the door that divides the space roughly in half you’ll find the 3D printing and laser engraving room on the left, and a small kitchen for members to use on the right. Just past the halfway door is the entrance to the computer lab, and towards the back of the building are welding and woodworking. There is a 2nd level mezzanine that is open to use for all sorts of projects!

Facility Rules

1. Don’t make us make more rules – Think about what you’re doing when you’re in the space, and if it seems like something that might end badly and force us to make a new rule about it, STOP. If Jim or a volunteer in the space tells you to stop, STOP.

2. Dress for your tasks and wear safety gear – Always wear the appropriate clothing for the work you’re doing. For example, don’t wear loose fitting clothes around rotating tools, or don’t wear short sleeves while welding. SAFETY GEAR IS REQUIRED for welding, woodworking and anything where there are safety risks.

3. Be prepared – It is your responsibility to have the products you need for your project. The makerspace does have some electronics, 3D printer filament, wood, and other supplies that you can use, but we ask that if you use these products, you drop off a donation to cover their costs. Suggested donations are listed near where consumables are kept.

4. Know what you’re doing – Equipment needs to be operated safely and properly. If you do not know how to use a piece of equipment and/or you don’t know if you can do something safely, STOP. Our director, Jim, or a trained volunteer will be happy to show you how to use any equipment if you need a hand.

5. Report broken tools and safety hazards – Let us know when something needs to be fixed. NEVER USE BROKEN EQUIPMENT. Safety forms are available near the office.

6. Clean up – Our space is volunteer-run. There’s nobody getting paid to clean up your messes. So when you make a mess, clean it up.

When a rule is violated, you will have a strike added to your account (if you have a strike, they will appear in your Membership Account page). We get it, nobody’s perfect. Strikes don’t last forever, and will fall off after a few months. If a member earns three strikes, they will be asked to take a 30-day break from using the makerspace. If they return and earn another strike, their membership will be cancelled.

Liability Waiver

For insurance purposes, all guests to the makerspace must accept our liability waiver prior to using the facility. Follow this link to read the liability waiver. On a new visitor’s first visit, they will be asked to sign the waiver digitally at the kiosk near the reception desk.

We’re here to help!
