Connecting Youth with the Technology They Need
At Made New Makerspace, we are committed to bridging the digital divide and providing equal opportunities for all youth. Laptops for Learners empowers youth in foster care or low-income settings by equipping them with free refurbished laptops.
If you are a parent, caregiver, or guardian of a young person in need of laptop technology but you can’t afford it, we’re here to help.
How To Apply
IMPORTANT: THIS PAGE WAS RECENTLY UPDATED. PLEASE READ THE INFORMATION BELOW.
There are three steps in the process of receiving a laptop from Made New Makerspace for your child:
Make sure you qualify!
Read through the qualifications below carefully and make sure your family qualifies for a laptop.
Complete the application
If you meet all the qualifications, click the button to begin the application. You will be walked through a few questions that will help us get to know you and your specific need.
If your application is approved, you will typically hear back from us within a week. During this call, text, or email, we will discuss the next steps and schedule a time for you to come and pick up the laptop.
Pick up your laptop
At the scheduled time, the laptop recipient and their parent or guardian should come to the Makerspace to pick up their computer.
PROGRAM QUALIFICATIONS:
- AGE – The laptop MUST be for a youth between the ages of 8 and 24 years old. (Please note: the application must be completed by an adult, 19 years old or older.)
- LOW INCOME HOUSEHOLD / FOSTER CARE – The youth MUST live in a low-income home, or currently be placed in foster care. Our guidelines for low income status are similar to HUD, found here.
- ONE LAPTOP PER HOUSEHOLD – Only ONE (1) laptop will be given out per family or household. This helps ensure laptops can benefit as many families as possible.
- PICKUP – If you are selected to receive a laptop, you must be able to come to our facility to pick it up.
In addition to those qualifications, everyone who applies for a laptop agrees to the following terms:
LAPTOP CONDITION – The laptop you are applying for is used. We have done our best to ensure it is in good working order, but it might not be in perfect condition. We will repair or replace the laptop for any reason for 90 days from the date you receive it from us. LIMITED TECHNOLOGY – We do not have enough computers to issue a laptop for every application we receive. Even if you meet all of our qualifications, there is no guarantee that you will receive a laptop for your child. You understand that granting a request is at our sole discretion. AGREEMENT – By completing this application, you confirm that the information provided is true and accurate to the best of your knowledge. You understand that providing false information may result in disqualification from the program. You also consent to the use of quotes and the taking of photographs and video while at the Made New Makerspace facility or participating in Made New Makerspace activities. You also grant the right to edit, use, and reuse media for nonprofit purposes including use in print, on the internet, and all other forms of media. You also hereby release Made New Makerspace and its agents and employees from all claims, demands, and liabilities whatsoever in connection with the above.
